Brochure and Booking FormsBoth were included with the January edition of Catena. Book now! AccessibilityHarrogate’s central location means you can easily reach the town by road, rail or air. The Leeds/Bradford airport is just 20 minutes drive away. Train connections from York and Leeds are well developed and the A1/M1 and M62 motorways are nearby for access by car or coach. ActivitiesAs you can see from the programme, it is a very full one. However, there are plenty of non-conference things to do as well if you wish - the famous Betty’s Café; museums and art galleries; taste the ‘sulphur water’ - if you dare; visit the Turkish Baths and unwind in steam rooms, hot rooms and plunge pool; go and see the National ‘rhubarb’ collection at Harlow Carr; browse in the many ‘antique’ shops or drive into nearby Wensleydale for spectacular scenery, fine local cheeses and ales! The historic town of Knaresborough is only three miles away on the River Nidd. It has the remains of a Norman castle, wonderful views and an ancient hermitage St. Robert’s Cave - which provides a link with an ‘English St. Francis’, namely, Robert Flowers. Wharfedale also provides superb scenery - the village of Bolton Abbey is particularly worth a visit with its extensive remains of an Augustine Priory. Sunday MassPreparations are well in hand - our organist is Richard Martin from Bradford - after playing in his home parish of St.Walburga’s and St.Mary’s in Shipley he went on to be an organ scholar at St. Anne’s Cathedral in Leeds. He studied Engineering at Durham University were he gained his M.Eng. He is now doing research for his PhD on ‘Low Speed Permanent Magnetic Generators’! While at Durham he has continued his organ tuition under the watchful eyes of James Lancelot of Durham Cathedral. Richard is currently the organist at St.Cuthbert’s in Durham and is the Musical Director of the University Catholic Chaplaincy. The Province is working hard to ensure you have a great weekend in Harrogate in May - see you then! Jim Brophy, President of Harrogate Circle PS: in answer to those of you who have asked – yes , there is a very good Aga shop in town! |
