After a breath of fresh air at Eastbourne-- come to Harrogate-‘the oxygen for
success.’
“Harrogate is a place where the alchemy of professionalism, world
class facilities and a relaxing, friendly enviroment creates the oxygen for
success to flourish.”
The main objective for the Harrogate Conference Committee
is to build on the success of the Eastbourne Conference-to continue with the
successful elements and to put into place some more innovations. So you can
expect:- · In the January 2003 edition of Catena there will be the new style
booking forms plus a map of Harrogate to help you decide where to stay. ·
Conference Office at the Headquarters Hotel, namely the Majestic, will be ‘open
all hours !’. · Excellent name badges · We will continue to give a ‘special
welcome’ to first time Conference attendees and to visiting Brothers and their
wives from overseas Circles-including a drinks reception on the Friday evening.
· The Civic Reception will continue to be less formal-lounge suits for brothers.
· The AGM on Saturday morning will again commence at 9.30am ,thus providing more
time-there will be a mid morning refreshment break. · Both the Banquet and the
Carnival will again commence at 6.30pm for 7.30pm- no formal receiving line! ·
Refreshments available after Mass · The Conference Booking Fee is not
reappearing! · An excellent range of hotels, rates and prices-and you can book
your own accommodation through the Harrogate Tourist Information Centre if you
wish.
and so what is new- · Thursday Evening Mass at St.Robert’s-all welcome. ·
Golf on the Friday-an excellent day’s golf including transport ,refreshments
before and after you play. · Provincial Officers Meeting-Friday afternoon-a new
approach with opportunities to discuss relevant issues. · Informative displays
at the Civic Reception. · A keynote speaker at the AGM-after the mid morning
break , the recently appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Leeds-Bishop Arthur
Roche-will address the Conference. · Ladies tours-a guided tour to Fountains
Abbey, now a world heritage site- or a guided tour of the Royal Horticultural
Society’s Gardens at Harlow Carr. · Saturday Evening –two functions to choose
from :the Banquet at the Majestic Hotel or the Carnival in the International
Centre. Both will be evenings to remember! · The Sunday Mass-chief celebrant-the
CARDINAL. He has indicated that he wants to meet as many people as possible
after Mass. Bishop Konstant and Bishop Roche will concelebrate. The local
Catholic School will be providing the choir. · The Cardinal and the two Bishops
will be attending the Banquet. · Website-information about the Conference can be
found on the Conference website which can be accessed through the national
website,i.e:- www.thecatenianassociation.org · The designs to be used for all
the Conference literature and the Conference logo have been produced by students
at the local Catholic Comprehensive School-the St. John Fisher Catholic High
School,Harrogate.
As you can see, we have developed close links with the
school-they have the distinction of being a ‘specialist arts college’-and as a
consequence were delighted to be asked to provide designs for the Conference
literature and the logo. They also willing agreed to provide a choir for the
Sunday Mass. The Headteacher,Mr.Paul Johnson, is not a Catenian (not yet!)but he
obviously sees that there is great value in our working together both now for
the Conference and in the future-something for the Association to note
especially in thinking about 2008! He writes as follows:- (His article is
attached separately) Looking forward to seeing you all in Harrogate next May!
